The safety and welfare of the students and staff are a high priority at Q. I. Roberts Jr. Sr. High School. At 11:35 today, QIR conducted a school-wide lockdown drill. We practiced safety drills throughout the year to help the students and staff know what to do in an emergency. We are pleased with the outcome of today’s drill and feel confident that our safety procedures can be implemented effectively by the staff and students. If you have any questions or need further information please contact us. Thank you.

Every thriving theater program begins with someone willing to imagine what doesn’t exist yet.
While drama has been part of Q.I. Roberts’ story for many years through dedicated teachers who introduced students to the stage with productions such as Disorder in the Court and Million Dollar Meatballs, this year marks an exciting new chapter. For the first time in school history, Q.I. Roberts is proud to present a complete Knights Theater Season.

Three years ago, we began rebuilding our program by introducing students to professionally licensed plays recognized on stages across the country. Beginning with Almost, Maine, continuing with the Broadway hit The Play That Goes Wrong, and last year's acclaimed production of Clue: On Stage, our students have been challenged with works performed by professional theater companies nationwide. This season, we continue that tradition with two enduring American classics: Steel Magnolias (February 20–23, 2027) and Our Town (April 12–13, 2027).

As a Cambridge International School, Q.I. Roberts challenges students to think critically, communicate effectively, collaborate with others, and engage deeply with literature and the human experience. Theater naturally extends that mission. Students are not simply memorizing lines—they are analyzing complex texts, studying character motivation, solving problems creatively, speaking confidently, and learning to work as an ensemble. These are the very skills that prepare young people for success in college, careers, and life.

Our productions also connect our students to the broader world of professional theatre. The works we produce are not simplified classroom exercises—they are plays that have earned lasting places in American theater. Steel Magnolias remains one of the most frequently produced dramas in the country and enjoyed a celebrated Broadway revival, while Our Town has been recognized for generations as one of America’s greatest plays and continues to be produced on Broadway and in professional theaters around the world. When our students step onto this stage, they become part of that enduring theatrical tradition.

Our student body reflects the rich diversity of Putnam County. Some of our performers dream of careers in the arts. Others plan to become engineers, teachers, nurses, military leaders, business owners, or physicians. Every student, however, benefits from the confidence, empathy, discipline, resilience, and collaboration that theater develops.

This season represents more than two productions. It represents a school community that believes academic excellence and artistic excellence belong together. It represents students willing to take creative risks, families who give countless hours of support, faculty who encourage their growth, administrators who believe the arts are essential to a well-rounded education, and a community that continues to invest in its young people.

Thank you for joining us as we celebrate this historic first season of Knights Theater. We hope you enjoy Steel Magnolias and Our Town, two timeless stories that remind us of the beauty found in everyday lives, enduring relationships, and the communities we call home.

Welcome to the beginning of a new tradition!
