PCSD Pulse Podcast - Q.I. Roberts- Putnam County Academic Team

On the podcast, Dr. Rick Surrency sat down with Q.I. Roberts Academic Team coach and teacher Mrs. Boze, along with Principal Theobold, to discuss Putnam County’s Academic Team’s recent victory. Students emphasized that their teachers prepared them for more than just competition—equipping them with the critical thinking skills needed to succeed under pressure. Their road to the championship was anything but straightforward. After finishing last in their division during the opening round, the team dropped into the consolation bracket. Instead of folding, they used the setback as a turning point. It gave them an extra round to refine their strategy, learn each other’s strengths, and better understand how to approach the competition. From there, they climbed steadily—moving from last place to second, then second again, and finally to first when it mattered most. That disciplined approach became one of the team’s greatest advantages. While other teams answered aggressively and lost points on incorrect responses, QI Roberts team members stayed composed, trusted one another, and avoided costly mistakes. That balance of confidence and restraint proved to be the difference in the championship round. The victory was historic for Putnam County, but one standout honor made the moment even bigger: Dominic was selected to represent the region on Team Florida, making him the first student in Putnam County history to earn that distinction. The recognition came with an additional scholarship and marked another milestone in an already remarkable season- Despite the accolades, Dominic remained humble. For QI Roberts, the state title represents more than academic excellence. It reflects curiosity, humility, creativity, and a team culture built on trust and critical thinking. For Putnam County, it marks the rise of a championship team that has already made history—and may just be getting started.
