Thanks to an ongoing partnership with the Putnam County Supervisor of Elections, Q.I. Roberts Jr./Sr. High School students once again had the opportunity to experience the democratic process firsthand during this year’s Student Government elections.
With real voting machines, official ballots, and guidance from Supervisor of Elections Charles Overturf and Assistant Supervisor Jennifer Adkisson, students participated in a realistic simulation of local elections—an initiative that’s been part of Q.I. tradition since 2019.
Student government sponsor Mr. Ian Boze shared, “We’ve been able to offer this experience for several years now, and students truly look forward to it. It gives them a glimpse into the democratic process—from filing petitions and campaigning to casting their vote and leading their class.”
While on campus, the elections team also pre-registers eligible students to vote, with 20–30 students each year taking this important step toward civic engagement.
This year’s election was one of the most competitive yet, with especially large candidate pools in 11th and 12th grades and several races decided by narrow margins. The high level of participation and spirited campaigning reflected students’ enthusiasm for leadership and community involvement.
