The Palatka High School Theater Program just wrapped its production of ‘A Christmas Carol’ this past weekend. It ran for two weekends with a total of 10 shows throughout the two weekends. ‘A Christmas Carol’ is a story that follows mean old Ebenezer Scrooge as he is visited by his old friend Jacob Marley who warns him three ghosts will be visiting him. These ghosts, the Past, the present, and the future, show him all different things in hopes that he changes his way. In the end Scrooge does change his way and makes everyone around him happy (with a few musical numbers in the middle.)
Even though it is called the Palatka High school Musical Theater program this program is open to everyone. In fact, out of the 29 high schoolers 11 are from Q I Roberts, 10 are from Palatka High School, 7 are homeschooled, and one is from Penlia. We have a wide mixture of participation and it allows everyone the chance to participate in musical theater. Not only did Q. I. Roberts students participate, many of them received leads such as Jacob Marely (Matthew Snider), Bob Cratchit (Max Sapp), Young Scrooge (Lucas Bergen), the Ghost of Christmas Past (Gabi Chapman), Mrs. Fezziwig (Tenly Stith), Mrs. Mops (Gracie Jordan), and Sally Anderson (Rylie Asbury.) Other people from Q. I. were Lily Howe, Rashean Jones, Keira McGahen, and Makayla Thomas. Ensemble members are just as important as the leads and we were happy to have everyone. Mr. P is very grateful for everyone who is in his shows.
Over the years I have been in musical theater, I have talked to many people from QI that are in the shows and everyone has loved it. Many have spoken about how they are happy they get the opportunity to perform in musicals since we don’t have those at QI. They have all spoken about how grateful they are and usually they are looking forward to performing in the upcoming musical. I am happy QI participates in these musicals as it showcases we are talented in a wide range of things from academics, to sports, to e-sports, and through musical theater and performing.
